Chari Dance – A Glowing Celebration of Grace and Culture

The Chari Dance of Rajasthan is a visually stunning folk performance traditionally performed by the women of the Gujjar community in Kishangarh. Known for its unique and graceful presentation, this dance involves balancing brass pots on the head—often lit with oil-soaked cotton wicks, creating a mesmerizing effect, especially during night performances.

Unlike other folk dances, Chari Dance doesn’t focus on complex steps. Instead, the elegance lies in the dancers’ ability to balance the flaming pots while swaying gracefully in a style similar to Ghoomar. The music is brought to life with traditional instruments like dhol, bankiya, and thali, creating a vibrant and rhythmic atmosphere.

The performers wear traditional attire, adorned with ornate jewelry including Hansli, timniya, mogri, bangdi, gajra, and karli. Their elaborate look is completed with large nose rings and a khol—a decorative coconut accessory placed on their heads.
